
The environmental radon detector is suitable for measuring radon volume activity in ambient air, soil, and water, as well as surface radon emission rates in soil and building materials. It can be used for environmental monitoring, geological prospecting, radiation protection, nuclear accident monitoring, radiation dose assessment, earthquake prediction, and educational purposes.
This instrument is based on the high-voltage electrostatic adsorption alpha spectrometry method. A gas pump draws radon-containing gas into the electrostatic collection chamber. When radon undergoes alpha decay, the radon atom transforms into a positively charged polonium atom (ion), which moves toward the detector surface under the influence of a high-voltage electric field and is adsorbed onto the detector. Subsequently, the polonium atoms on the surface undergo alpha decay; the excitation caused by the alpha particles generates an electrical current signal (electrical pulse signal) on the detector surface. This electrical pulse signal passes through the instrument’s multichannel pulse counter, which determines the number and energy of the alpha particles produced, thereby indirectly calculating the concentration of radon in the air.
