Melt flow rate refers to the weight or volume of thermoplastic material that passes through a standard die in 10 minutes under specified temperature and load conditions, expressed as MFR. This value indicates the viscous flow characteristics of thermoplastic materials in their molten state.
The melt index tester consists of four main components: the main unit, temperature control system, temperature measurement system, and automatic cutting system. The main unit, serving as the core of the instrument and also known as the extrusion system, comprises the furnace body, barrel, piston, die, and weights.
The melt index tester measures the melt flow rate of various polymers in their viscous flow state. It is suitable for testing engineering plastics with higher melting temperatures, such as polycarbonate, polyarylsulfone, fluoroplastics, nylon, and other engineering plastics with high melting temperatures, as well as plastics with lower melting temperatures such as polyethylene, polystyrene, polypropylene, ABS resin, and polyformaldehyde resin. It is widely used in plastic production, plastic products, petrochemical industries, as well as in universities, research institutions, and commodity inspection departments.
The instrument features heating and constant-temperature control devices, offering rapid heating rates with minimal overshoot and high temperature stability. It quickly restores constant-temperature conditions after filling.
Temperature measurement system: Continuously measures and displays temperature values.
Automatic cutting system: Automatically cuts material at preset time intervals and frequencies, with timing units in seconds.

The barrel is placed inside the furnace cavity. Made of alloy steel, its inner wall features high hardness and corrosion resistance.
The piston is constructed from corrosion-resistant stainless steel with hardness lower than that of the barrel's inner wall.
