The strength of plant stems is a key factor determining a crop's resistance to lodging. For a long time, lodging in crops like corn, sorghum, and tobacco has posed significant challenges for mechanical harvesting. From a mechanization perspective, this leads to substantial grain waste. Additionally, lodged crops receive insufficient sunlight, severely limiting their yield potential. Conducting in-vivo measurements of stems throughout crop growth stages, followed by statistical analysis of population data based on the correlation between stem fiber layer bending resistance and lodging resistance, holds significant implications for crop cultivation and breeding.
The plant stem strength tester employs a tension-compression sensor to measure the maximum force generated at the moment of stem fracture or yield through methods such as needle penetration, crushing, or breaking. This force represents the stem's strength.
Three different probes: Enable measurement of stem bending performance, stem compressive strength, and stem tissue structure (puncture) strength.
