The resulting disordered light is referred to as scattered light. Internationally, the ratio of the scattered light flux—which passes through the sample and deviates from the direction of the incident light—to the transmitted light flux is expressed as a percentage; this is known as haze. Samples with high haze appear more blurry to the human eye.
